Objectives
  • To produce the manpower, those are confident to apply biochemistry knowledge in different span of living beings.

  • Applications of the above knowledge in the understanding of disease processes and drugs discovery with vaccination

  • To provide fundamental knowledge in statistical concepts and regulatory approach in biochemistry

  • To adopt multidisciplinary approach to equiped the students for multidimensional carrier opportunities

  • Experiments to demonstrate important bio-chemical, molecular and physiological concepts

  • To encourage the student’s capacity for self-learning by research work

Biochemistry is the science concerned with the chemical basis of life. Biochemistry incorporates everything in size between a molecule and a cell and all the interactions between them. The aim of biochemists is to describe in molecular terms the structures, mechanisms and chemical processes shared by all organisms, providing organizing principles that underlie life in all its diverse forms. So a biochemist would study about these molecules namely carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Biochemist also studies their reactions and what affects them and in what ways. Biochemistry is thus a study of the compounds found inside living beings, the processes involved with the focus on the role, function and structure of these molecules.

Biochemistry now encompasses all of the molecular and cellular life sciences. Scientific topics falling under the broad description of biochemistry include genetics, immunology, virology, developmental biology, neurobiology, cell biology and structural biology. A recent milestone in biochemistry was the completion of the Human Genome Project and stem cell therapy. There has never been a better time to study biochemistry. With the introduction of newer methods in science and technology, the scope of biochemistry is much greater than past. In fact, biochemistry is Fundamental discipline of life science that fulfill the requirements of all students.

Strategic plan

Learning in St. Mary’s College is based on syllabus harmonized with HEC and GCUF.

  • Curriculum: Learning in St. Mary’s College is based on syllabus harmonized with HEC and GCUF

  • Elements: To follow the curriculum based on recommendations of HEC and GCUF academic bodies and QEC according to the requirements of the Subject.

  • Strategies: To attract and retain highly qualified, energetic, and motivated faculty in all core areas of the program. To ensure that curriculum is taught by using the latest and high quality text/ reference books and other learning methodologies.

College Infrastructure & Services:

St. Mary’s College has offered one (01) regular degree program in Life Sc, namely BS Biochemistry. St. Mary’s College has a collaborative fifteen private & public hospitals which positively and efficiently contributes for the betterment and practical learning of the students. Executives from industry, hospitals, research labs and practitioner and well reputed service organizations are invited to coordinate and educate the students.

  • Basic Knowledge: To develop true understanding of BIOCHEMISTRY with knowledge based study and value added research.

  • Specialized Knowledge: To confer St. Mary’s College a National and International recognition. We, therefore, are focusing on the advancement of new methodologies.

  • Research and Development: To accomplish high quality research and produce well qualified teachers and researchers to participate in development projects.

  • Practical Experience: To grant students with a specialized experience that implants the intellect of professional morals in their personal through internships and research projects.

  • Communication Skills: To communicate schooling and inculcate study background in such a move that develops useful skills in students and inspire them towards a career of modernization

Different Academic Programs:

Providing unique Programs; Preparing dynamic leaders and Practitioners in teaching, research, management, and other fields of professional vivacity.

Faculty Development:

The St. Mary’s Professional Development provision offers support for staff to develop the key skills, knowledge, technology use, capacity building, new methodologies and attitudes expected for effective performance across all roles within the College, and to integrate continuous learning and development as a vital component of working life at St. Mary’s/

Industry/Labs Collaboration:

St. Mary’s is already shifting toward providing students practical learning experiences that take place outside the four walls of the classroom. Students interning in nonprofit and community-based organizations benefit from the opportunity to apply lessons learned in the classroom while also cultivating skills essential to future career success. In addition, students are able to meet the human resource needs of financially constrained organizations while getting an insider’s view of careers in nonprofit management and community mobilization. For this, one concern HOD or faculty  member shall be appoint along with one administration official to provide supervision and regular visitation during the period of internship.

Workshops and seminars:

A number of seminars, conferences and awareness walks are organized by the institution to provide substantial and updated information to masses about the programs.

Professionalism:

Building and maintaining strong campus-community partnerships that channel resources to young people takes hard work and dedication from all parties involved. This section outlines the steps that your local effort may take to prepare, initiate and sustain professionalism.

Research and Publications:
  • We want our young ones to be the leader in research & carry out the research of highest grade contributing to the prosperity of country and economic development.

  • To provide a research environment that is conducive for carrying out basic and applied research.

  • To emphasize on the research elements of BS (Hons)’s thesis/Internship Report/Research Project.

Curriculum & Program Objectives:

Courses offered by our College are designed to inculcate following qualities in students

    • Basic Concepts

    • Applied knowledge

    • Practical Skills

    • Professionalism

    • Internship
